Dear Dixie Parents/Guardians,
I am writing to let you know that a new child passenger law went in to effect beginning January 1, 2012. This new law, signed by Governor Brown on October 4, 2011, amended Vehicle Code sections 27360 and 27363 and revises the age and height requirements for children to be secured in a rear seat in an appropriate child passenger restraint system. The new child passenger restraint system law requires the following:
A child who is under age 8 years shall be properly secured in a rear seat in an appropriate child passenger restraint system meeting federal safety standards, except under any of the following circumstances:
1. The child is four feet nine inches or taller, in which case a safety belt may be used.
2. Use of a child passenger restraint system would be impractical by reason of physical unfitness, medical condition, or size and an appropriate special needs child passenger restraint system is not available.
3. There is no rear seat, the rear seats are side-facing jump seats or rear-facing seats, the child passenger restraint system cannot be installed properly in the rear seat, all rear seats are already occupied by children under age 8 years, or medical reasons necessitate that the child not ride in the rear seat.
4. The child is otherwise exempted by law.
Please plan accordingly for upcoming field trips as students who are not properly secured in accordance with this new law will not be able to attend the field trip. Thank you very much for your cooperation. As with the previous requirement, if your child requires a car safety seat, you will need to bring one to school on the day of the field trip.

Bikes in the traffic loop: We are finding that parents and students who are ridiing bikes in the traffic loop are having some "near miss" experiences! We are asking that parents and students who ride bikes to school, please use Idylberry Road and enter the campus near the MPR by WALKING your bike on the pathway. Thank you!
