Dear Dixie Families, It is with great excitement that I welcome back students and parents to the 2016- 2017 school year as the new principal of Dixie Elementary. Dixie enjoys a reputation of academic excellence that is the result of a strong partnership between the school staff and parents to provide exceptional learning experiences for the students. I have seen this strong partnership and focus on what is best for our students during my visits to the school and district office over the spring and summer. It is my sincere pleasure and honor to become a member of such an exceptional team of teachers, parents, and staff members that make this great school community. Before coming to Dixie Elementary, my teaching experience began as a high school alternative education teacher for at-risk students in Compton, California. Following that brief but rewarding experience, I accepted a 5th grade position at Dr. Jonas Salk Elementary in Anaheim, California (just minutes from Disneyland!). Over the course of 10 years as an elementary teacher I taught in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th grade. This strong foundation in elementary curriculum prepared me to take the next step in my career as a K-12 STEM/STEAM curriculum specialist in Santa Ana Unified. I supported a district of over 50,000 students by developing engaging curriculum and online/blended learning courses to meet the academic needs of students. Last year I relocated to the Bay Area from Orange County to accept an elementary assistant principal position at two schools in South San Francisco. When the Dixie principal position was posted this spring, I jumped at the chance to be a part of the staff and I am elated to bring my knowledge and skills to Dixie. Along with teachers and staff, I will work hard to continue the legacy of success established at Dixie. All of us are eager and excited to continue to provide academic experiences for our students that are rigorous, relevant and prepare them for middle school. We will continue our focus on Common Core standards and 21st Century skills, character education, and providing engaging and challenging enrichment opportunities for all students. I am particularly excited to support teachers with integrating our increasing number of computers in the classroom to foster critical thinking, communication, creativity, and collaboration. As your principal, it is important to me that everyone who is a part of our school community is excited to be here! This attitude enables us to meet challenges in a positive, fun and safe environment. My door is always open and I welcome your input. Back to School Dates... 8/8- Dixie School Office Opens 8/17- Tk-K Playdate 10:00am and Meet the Teacher for grades 1st through 5th, 11:00am to noon 8/18- First Day of School 11:50am dismissal for K, 1:25pm dismissal all other grades 8/19- Early dismissal grades 1st through 5th 8/25- DHSC Ice Cream Social and Meet the CanDo! Specialists!
